3 years ago, I made my very 1st pads from bamboo and/or terri-cloth core because that's what my 1st customers wanted. It was very important that the pads didn't contain any toxins, which is super important - but the choices were limited. As much as bamboo and cotton "felt right", they came with a lot of problems.
Unfortunately the bamboo and terri-cloth were prone to "bunching" and bad smell. The serged seams of the core were prone to leaks (through the stitching by the wings). I've lost count how many times I went back to the drawing board, took polls and feedback from existing customers and was even "mentored" by cloth pad makers who had gone through all the hiccups before me.
I appreciate all of you! Constructive criticism was such an important part of delivering a product that works
Switching my core to Zorb was one of the best decisions I ever made - not only does it NOT bunch, it absorbs a lot more than any other core, is non-toxic, washes out easily and doesn't stink.
Changing my pattern out to finished seams without stitching through the middle made the pad FULLY leak proof. Widening the wings prevented the pads from slipping back - and troubleshooting with women who still had this slipping problem was crucial to finding solutions for it. Check out my amazon pad hacks! This was such a joint effort to make a product that delivered.
My husband was laid off twice during the pandemic and I prayed the Father would give me something to do from home, homeschooling our children at the same time and that could be enough to contribute to groceries. That very night, I dreamt about linen pads. My initial "micro" investment 3 years ago, was a mere $100 bucks. To us at that time, it felt like a thousand dollars, life was tough. I bought some linen and other fabrics, and was eventually blessed by a donation from a fellow IG mama to buy my 1st serger. To me that was a major confirmation. Anything I make, to this day, goes back to my business (and some groceries of course! ) & is still pretty much a "one man's show". This being said, I have been able to source some sewing help every so often and my husband helps me a lot with all the logistics/website stuff - including snaps!
Thank you all for your support, to those who have been here from day 1 and to the latest curious follower of linen benefits. Thank you!
All glory and credit goes to Abba, Father.
